Vacuum pump failed on freeway at low speed. Chevrolet has acknowledged there is a problem but only offers replacement for under 70,000 miles. I am at 80,000 miles and had to pay $800 on my vacation trip.

During slow movement, such as approaching a stop sign in traffic, the brake pedal will get hard and there will be no brakes. This has only occured during slow movement so far, but i'm now concerned that it could happen at highway speed. Chevrolet's service bulletin indicated the vacuum pump failure will cause the master cylinder and another line to be considered "contaminated" causing them to need to be replaced.
